Here is my summary of 31 days without social media experiment and how it greatly improved my life, my mindset and overall wellbeing.
I came off social media on 1st July 2026, and decided not to return until 1st August. Before coming off I was:
- constantly scrolling,
- not doing much to the house and garden,
- spending money on things I don’t need (through ads mostly),
- unorganised (with money and otherwise),
- neglecting my own health,
- not going to the gym (which was my biggest problem),
- I’ve paid for courses I never finished (ads again and influencers),
- neglecting writing my own blog.
All of the above were so frustrating, but most of them I didn’t know I was doing, and when I did get aware, I just went back to the bad habits to not think about it.
This is what happened during the month of July:
- I spend time organising and caring for the garden,
- I looked after myself and my partner more,
- we spend time fixing and organising the house,
- we watched old, meaningful movies,
- I spend money on new plants and the garden is flourishing,
- I finished reading a book I’ve been meaning to finish for months, and started studding the Bible,
- I felt mentally better, with less anxiety, less body shaming, comparing myself to others,
- my mind feels like there is massive space to fill with true knowledge and meaning.
This is what happened when I returned to each one of them:
Instagram: I returned to it after not using it for 31 days, and within 10 mins:
- I’ve seen images of women who are slimmer than me telling me how to lose weight;
- videos of women who are fitter than me, telling me the opposite of how to lose weight;
- I’ve seen videos telling me that the world is a terrible place run by terrible people;
- and bunch of pictures of people I know, who’s lives are not perfect, not even close, but who portrait their lives as perfect in snippets of pictures that they purposefully stage to make them look perfect.
This proves that the accumulation of negative feelings I had before I quit it was real, and was caused by social media.
There were some fun tips from hiking and mountain biking people I follow, and lovely videos of kittens (probably AI).
I think it’s safe to say that scrolling on this platform is far from healthy.
Pinterest: spend 15-20mins on it and felt really nice, I found some lovely garden ideas I wanted to check out. Bombarded by the ads. Shame on you social media. Shame on you greedy people who don’t allow free media without adds and even if such media appear online, you don’t hesitate to buy them and destroy them with your greed.
Facebook: there are no words that describe how bad the platform is. 5 minutes back on it and I was done. Deleted.
X: better than any news site right now, but since I’ve been so detached from news for the last 31 days, I’m just too uninterested to be on it. Deleted after 5 mins.
After this I got up, had my breakfast, went to the gym, and carried on gardening.
I just feel really alive again, without judgement or without thinking what others may think. It was truly brilliant and I recommend anyone to do this too for healthier, and wealthier internal life.Safe to safe life is better without social media.
